Operation of Industry-Academia-Research-Government Council
to Discover Five Regional Strategic New Business Agendas
Busan City and the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, Director Kim Young-bu) held the "2025 Advanced New Business Discovery Planning Group General Meeting" at the Busan City Hotel on the 14th, announcing the full-scale operation of an industry-academia-research-government council to discover new R&D projects in regional strategic industries and expand national funding attraction.
This meeting was organized to discover new R&D project agendas and strengthen the regional industry-academia-research-government cooperation system through collaboration between Busan City's Advanced Industry Bureau and BISTEP. Attendees included representatives from five departments under Busan City (△Industrial Policy Division △Semiconductor and New Materials Division △Artificial Intelligence Software Division △Biohealth Research and Development Division △Future Energy Industry Division) and key BISTEP officials.
Busan City and BISTEP are continuously making efforts to discover regionally specialized R&D projects in AI, quantum technology, power semiconductors, port logistics, and to expand national funding attraction.
In addition, to respond to the rapidly changing science and technology and industrial environment and to align with national policy directions, the Advanced New Business Discovery Planning Group was newly established. A total of five councils were formed in connection with Busan's strategic industries (△Mechanical Materials & Mobility △Semiconductor & New Materials △AI & Software △Biohealth △Future Energy). Each council will appoint experts suited to the characteristics of each strategic industry and will play a role in discovering new R&D projects through regular meetings.
At this meeting, topics such as △the operational direction and future schedule of the 2025 Advanced New Business Discovery Planning Group △plans for forming innovation institutions by council △major current issues of Busan City were discussed, and customized regional R&D project agenda discovery will proceed through in-depth discussions by each council in the future.
Director Kim Young-bu of BISTEP stated, “The Advanced New Business Discovery Planning Group will focus on proactively planning regional new growth R&D projects in cooperation with Busan City and expanding tangible national funding attraction results through this.” He added, “We will establish differentiated R&D attraction strategies reflecting Busan’s strengths and future industrial demands to further revitalize the regional innovation ecosystem.”
