Kwon Young-se Attends Kwanhun Club Forum
Kwon Seong-dong Visits Former President Lee Myung-bak
The leadership of the People Power Party is expanding its activities by visiting former presidents and attending journalists' forums. As the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-yeol approaches its final stages, they are listening to voices from various sectors.
On the 17th, Kwon Young-se, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, attended a discussion hosted by the Kwanhun Club, a gathering of current and former journalists, held at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul. In his keynote speech, Chairman Kwon identified 'national stability' as a key task. He stated, "The most important task ahead is to unite the divided public sentiment after the impeachment trial verdict and minimize national chaos."

To this end, he emphasized that the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial must be fair. Chairman Kwon referred to a public opinion poll showing that over 40% believe the impeachment trial by the Constitutional Court is unfair, expressing concern that "the impeachment verdict might not end conflicts but rather lead to greater discord." He added, "We request the constitutional justices to conduct the procedures fairly."
He suggested that politicians from both ruling and opposition parties should now engage in politics that focus on the nation and its people rather than partisan interests. He diagnosed that fundamental reforms are necessary to prepare for uncertainties such as the China-originated 'Deep Sea' shock and the uncertainties following the inauguration of the U.S. Donald Trump administration. Chairman Kwon said, "Urgent tasks such as labor market reform and promotion of technological innovation are numerous," and pledged, "With a desperate resolve to 'rebuild the nation,' we will present a policy vision for sustainable development."
In particular, he announced plans to focus on redesigning and investing in the national power grid. Chairman Kwon emphasized, "A plentiful and stable power supply is an essential condition for the leap forward of the semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries," and stressed, "We must actively invest in projects on which the nation's future depends in this era of the AI revolution."
Meanwhile, on the same day, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, visited the Cheonggye Foundation in Seocho-gu, Seoul, to meet former President Lee Myung-bak. This is his first visit to a former president since taking office as floor leader in December last year. Kwon served as the legal secretary at the Blue House Office of Civil Affairs during Lee Myung-bak's administration in 2008. After entering the 18th National Assembly, he was also classified as a pro-Lee (pro-Lee Myung-bak) faction lawmaker.
Floor leader Kwon is expected to seek advice from former President Lee regarding the December 3 emergency martial law incident and the impeachment crisis of President Yoon. He is reported to listen to opinions on ways to unify the divided public opinion and the direction the party should take after the impeachment trial.
