Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) has launched a housing welfare service that helps vulnerable groups with moving expenses and supports home repair costs.

Gangseo-gu will implement the ‘2025 Wise Moving Life’ project this year to assist housing-vulnerable groups struggling to cover moving expenses. The support targets recipients of basic living and medical benefits, providing up to 200,000 KRW per household once a year for moving costs. The support funds are directly deposited into the account under the recipient’s name. If a seizure-protected account is used, the funds are transferred to the local community service center’s account and given in cash.
The district plans to support 150 households this year. Once this year’s budget is exhausted, no further support will be available, so applications should be submitted promptly when the need arises. However, moving expenses are only supported when moving within Gangseo-gu. Moving from Gangseo-gu to another district or from another district to Gangseo-gu is not supported, so it is best to avoid unnecessary disputes.
Applications can be made through the local community service center. Applicants must bring the application form, a copy of their bankbook, and the moving expense receipt. The receipt must include information about the moving company, so be sure to keep it when moving. Estimates are not accepted.
Gangseo-gu will recruit households for the ‘Hope Home Repair’ project until the 7th of next month. ‘Hope Home Repair’ is a project that supports low-income households unable to afford repairs due to poor housing conditions such as aging or flooding, providing up to 2.5 million KRW per household.
The support targets households with income below 60% of the median income, including both homeowners and renters. Homeowners must currently reside in the house. However, homeowners with income below 48% of the median income (eligible for repair maintenance benefits), non-residential and unauthorized buildings, and households that have benefited from Hope Home Repair within the last three years are excluded.
Supported items include 18 types such as wallpapering, flooring, insulation, window replacement, and ceiling repairs. To improve air quality issues in semi-basement houses caused by mold and poor ventilation, ventilation fans can also be installed. Residents wishing to apply for home repair should visit their local community service center by the 7th of next month and submit the application and required documents. The district will review applications in March, select final recipients, and begin repairs as early as April.
Last year, Gangseo-gu supported a total of 68 households through this project. The support scale for the first half of this year is 650 households across Seoul, distributed proportionally based on district application volumes.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon stated, “We will create a safe and comfortable living environment for low-income groups in the blind spots of housing welfare,” and added, “We will continue to prepare various support measures to ensure the practical stability of residents’ lives.”
