Gwangbokhoe Gyeongnam Branch Links Regional Culture ... Publishes 'Doknipdeo Gyeongnam'

Introducing the History of the Anti-Japanese Independence Movement in Gyeongnam

The Gwangbokhoe Gyeongnam Branch published the monthly magazine 'Doknip The Gyeongnam' last January to commemorate the 80th anniversary of liberation and the 60th anniversary of the founding of Gwangbokhoe, aiming to discover and honor independence activists from Gyeongnam.

Gwangbokhoe Gyeongnam Branch Links Regional Culture ... Publishes 'Doknipdeo Gyeongnam' 'Independence The Gyeongnam'.

'Doknip The Gyeongnam' visits a different region in Gyeongnam each month to introduce the local independence movement history, independence activists, and regional culture, with the goal of linking this to regional cultural tourism.

The inaugural issue visited Yangsan City, the only city in Gyeongnam with an independence memorial museum established by a local government.

The Yangsan area introduces its anti-Japanese independence movement history, from militia leader Seo Byeong-hee to Yun Hyeon-jin, the finance minister of the Shanghai Provisional Government, and Kim Mal-bok, who led ethnic education at Tongdo Middle School, focusing especially on Jeon Byeong-geon, a relatively lesser-known independence activist, as the activist of the month.

It also features a map of the ‘Anti-Japanese Independence Manse Road and Independence Activists’ Birthplace Road’ to remember Yangsan’s anti-Japanese independence activists, as well as introducing ‘Yangsan’s famous restaurants’.

Park Hyeong-in, head of the Gwangbokhoe Gyeongnam Branch, stated in the inaugural message, “We are well aware of the information about famous independence activists nationwide. However, without the sacrifices of those who were not widely known but devoted themselves to the independence of our homeland, would we be where we are today? Through this 'Doknip The Gyeongnam,' I hope it will be an opportunity to share the achievements of independence activists from Gyeongnam with the residents of Gyeongnam.”

The Gwangbokhoe Gyeongnam Branch continues to carry out ongoing projects for independence patriots and their descendants and is striving to discover new independence activists.

At the end of this year, they plan to publish a compiled volume of the monthly issues and distribute it to Gyeongsangnam-do, local libraries, and cultural centers to serve as lessons for future generations as well as historical materials.
