Professor Park Guyong's Remarks Spark Debate
"Lone wolves, do not have hope"
People Power Party: "Judging with elitism"
Professor Park Guyong of the Department of Philosophy at Chonnam National University, who serves as the head of the Democratic Party of Korea's Education and Training Institute, likened the youths supporting the Seoul Western District Court incident to "lone wolves" and said they "should be allowed to wither away on their own." On the 8th, Park appeared on a YouTube channel and argued, "It is wrong to think about how to bring them into the Democratic Party. We should be thinking about how to make them a minority."

He said, "There is a group of young people born after the 1990s who embrace cultural liberalism and say 'difference is hope,'" adding, "Friends with delayed consciousness who have not kept up with that situation and are untrained in democracy are destroying democracy in the name of freedom."
He continued, "The biggest characteristic of lone wolves is that they want to follow someone. So they are easily organized," adding, "They think more than anyone else, but there is no reflection, only calculation. This cannot be fixed. Do not have hope."
This prompted immediate criticism from the ruling party. On the 11th, Park Minyoung, spokesperson for the People Power Party, pointed out in a statement, "A distorted perception of the 2030 generation was blatantly revealed." Park said, "The delayed consciousness is the outdated elitism of the Democratic Party's 86-generation activist faction judging the younger generation," and questioned, "Do the cries of young people who come out to the streets in the dead of winter, trembling as they hold microphones and shout at the political world, appear to the Democratic Party's eyes and ears as 'no reflection, only calculation' and sympathizing with rebellion?"
He also emphasized, "Politics is a means for the nation's future, and young people are the future of this nation, the very purpose of politics," adding, "The Democratic Party, which is left only with the desire for power and malice toward the opposing camp, will clearly realize the power of 'people without reflection and insignificant people.'"
Park had previously been involved in controversy. In December last year, when impeachment rallies against President Yoon Seok-yeol were ongoing, he said, "There is information I want to share with men in their 20s and 30s," adding, "I heard that many women are attending the rallies." When the host pointed out that this was an inappropriate remark for a philosophy professor, Park laughed it off, saying, "How philosophical is it that many women are attending?"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, appointed Professor Park Guyong of Chonnam National University's Department of Philosophy as the head of the Democratic Party's Education and Training Institute in September last year, which serves as the control tower for educating 1.25 million party members. Park was also strongly considered as a nominated supreme council member representing Honam under Lee Jae-myung's leadership in September 2022, but reportedly declined due to the burden of being affiliated with a specific party as a national university professor.
