120 Torchbearers Needed for 11 Town and Township Relay Sections
Apply at Administrative Welfare Centers by the 18th
Jangseong County in Jeollanam-do is recruiting 120 torchbearers for the 64th Jeollanam-do Sports Festival and the 33rd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival for the Disabled, which will be held in April.
The county announced on the 11th that it will select 120 runners to carry the torch through the relay sections in 11 towns and townships out of the entire torch relay course.
Anyone aged 10 or older who is a resident of the county can participate in the torch relay. Those who are registered as residents in the county or work at a company based in Jangseong are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted to the administrative welfare center of the applicant's respective town or township by the 18th.
The county will select runners considering factors such as gender and age. If the number of applicants exceeds the quota, final selections will be made through internal discussions within each town or township.
The torch for the sports festival will be lit at the Baegamsan National Flag Platform on April 17, prior to the event. The torch relay team, consisting of one main torchbearer, one deputy torchbearer, and eight escort runners, will carry the torch through the 11 town and township relay sections and unique relay sections, finally enshrining the flame at the Hwangryonggang Garden Stage.
On the day of the opening ceremony, the torch will be carried from the Hwangryonggang Garden Stage to the public stadium 'Yellow City Stadium' by a selected runner recommended by the Jangseong County Sports Council and the Jangseong County Sports Council for the Disabled.
Unique torch relay sections, such as a water relay at Jangseongho Lake, a relay by Confucian scholars at Pilam Seowon, and a relay within the Sangmudae military base, are being considered and will be decided through consultations with relevant organizations.
