Nonsan City in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 11th that it will completely block access to DeepSeek, a generative artificial intelligence developed in China, from all internal work PCs.
DeepSeek is an AI model developed by a Chinese artificial intelligence startup. While it has attracted global attention for its low cost and high performance, concerns have been raised regarding the excessive collection of personal information without user consent and the automatic use of all user-inputted data as training data, leading to potential leaks of personal and sensitive information.
As a result, central government agencies, as well as financial and public institutions, have implemented restrictions on the use of DeepSeek.
The city has completely blocked access to the DeepSeek website through its harmful site blocking system and firewall. Additionally, it posted guidelines on the internal bulletin board to inform all employees about the risks of using DeepSeek and the importance of adhering to security protocols when using generative AI.
A city official stated, "Special caution is required to ensure that documents and photos containing personal information are not uploaded when using the DeepSeek app on personal mobile phones. We will make every effort to completely block the possibility of personal information and important internal data leaks caused by the use of DeepSeek, in order to provide safe public services."
