Yeongam County Supports High-Quality Pear Production with Pollen Supply

Recruitment of Participants for the "Pear Fruit Set Stability Support Project"

The Yeongam-gun Agricultural Technology Center in Jeonnam is accepting applications for participants in the "2025 Pear Fruit Set Stability Support Project" until the 14th.

According to the county on the 11th, pears account for a high proportion of agricultural income in the main production area, which has a cultivation area of over 300 hectares. Recently, due to abnormal weather, pear farmers have been experiencing unstable fruit set and decreased yields. To help these farmers produce high-quality pears, the county is investing 160 million KRW in the project to provide materials such as pollen, pollinator saplings, and three types of compound fertilizers.

The main cultivar, "Singoba," is difficult to self-pollinate, but can be fertilized using imported pollen from varieties such as "Seolhwari" and "Chuhwang." Therefore, the county plans to supply imported pollen by sharing 50% of the cost with farmers, aiming to reduce labor for pollen collection and improve fruit set rates. Furthermore, to prepare for potential instability in the supply of imported pollen and to secure pollen in the long term, pollinator saplings such as "Wonhwang" and "Chuhwang" will also be provided.

To mitigate damage to pear blossoms and fruit caused by abnormal temperatures, materials containing trace elements for weather mitigation will be supplied with a 40% self-payment requirement, supporting improvements in fruit shape and increases in production and harvest yields.

Pear farmers can participate in this fruit set stability support project, which will begin providing support from the end of next month. Applications can be submitted at each Eup and Myeon Administrative Welfare Center.

Lee Jeong, head of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, "We will continue to provide substantial support so that pear farmers can increase their income through stable production despite challenging agricultural conditions."
