The Perpetrators Remain Unidentified
On the 3rd (local time), 10 soldiers were killed in an attack by an armed group in a border village in western Niger.
According to the AP News on the 6th, Niger military authorities stated in a press release that "an armed group carried out an ambush attack in the western village of Takzarat," and "on the following day, the 4th, 15 fleeing armed group members were killed."
The military authorities did not disclose which organization was behind the attack.
Takzarat village in Tillaberi region, bordering Mali and Burkina Faso, has been a site of nearly a decade of violent rebellion by armed groups linked to terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State (IS).
