Jungnang-gu Provides Free Installation Support for Flood Prevention Facilities Before Rainy Season

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will provide free flood prevention facilities to semi-basement houses to prevent flood damage caused by heavy summer rains.

This project was promoted to prevent flood damage and casualties caused by heavy rains and to create a safe and pleasant living environment. In particular, since about 58% of Jungnang-gu's residential area consists of low-rise housing, the district focused on securing a budget for installing flood prevention facilities in preparation for the expected heavy rains this summer.

As a result, a budget of 1.6 billion KRW was secured, enabling the prevention of flood damage to more households and allowing for proactive responses.

The supported installation facilities include ▲water blocking panels and ▲backflow prevention devices. Water blocking panels are installed to be detachable on windows of semi-basement houses and entrances to underground stairs of buildings where overflow of rainwater (surface water) from the road surface is a concern. Backflow prevention devices are installed in building drains, sinks, and restrooms where sewage backflow is a concern during rainfall.

The district plans to install flood prevention facilities in about 800 households in the area. Residents wishing to apply can submit an application form and required documents to their local community service center or the district office's flood control department starting in March, and installations will proceed sequentially. Both building owners and tenants can apply.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Since the secured budget has increased compared to last year, we will actively install flood prevention facilities before the rainy season to minimize flood damage,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that all residents can live in a safe residential environment.”

Geumcheon-gu Provides 100,000 KRW per Household to 12,900 Low-Income Vulnerable Households

Heating Cost Support of 100,000 KRW per Household for 12,900 Low-Income Vulnerable Households

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) announced on the 6th that it has provided special heating cost support of 100,000 KRW to 12,900 low-income vulnerable households.

The district is supporting heating costs this year to help vulnerable groups struggling with the cold wave and economic downturn. Heating costs of 100,000 KRW per household were provided to recipients of basic livelihood security, near-poverty groups, Seoul-type basic beneficiaries, and legally recognized single-parent families.

Heating costs were automatically provided to eligible households without a separate application process. However, households without registered bank accounts, those using seizure-protection accounts, or those unable to open accounts for other reasons will receive heating costs in cash as an exception. The local community service centers will provide separate guidance.

Yoo Sung-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I hope the heating cost support will help vulnerable residents overcome the cold wave and economic difficulties,” adding, “We will support residents so they can spend the winter warmly.”

Since 2023, the district has been supporting heating and cooling costs for vulnerable households. In January, it provided 50,000 KRW holiday consolation money per household to 8,800 basic livelihood security recipients and supported 3,500 near-poverty households with 50,000 KRW Onnuri gift certificates as winter countermeasure funds.

Resolving Safety Risks from Tilted Trees, Dead Trees, etc... Applications Accepted Until 5 PM on February 21

Guro-gu is accepting applications for the ‘Hazardous Tree Maintenance Support Project Around Living Areas’ until February 21.

The ‘Hazardous Tree Maintenance Support Project Around Living Areas’ aims to secure residents' safety by maintaining trees and branches that pose a high risk of falling during natural disasters such as typhoons and strong winds or that have concerns about falling branches due to pests or death.

The support targets hazardous trees within residential buildings as defined in Article 2, Paragraph 2 of the Building Act, including ▲tilted trees with a high risk of falling ▲dead trees and pest-damaged trees ▲trees with excessive growth posing a high risk of falling branches. However, trees in forest conservation areas, apartment complexes with 20 or more households, and large business sites are excluded from support.

Applications can be submitted by visiting the district office's Parks and Greenery Division, by mail, or by email by 5 PM on February 21. If applying for trees on buildings owned by others, a consent form from the owner must be submitted. For detailed information, contact the Parks and Greenery Division.

After receiving applications, the district will review and prioritize trees with higher risk, and the final results will be announced on the district office website on February 26.

A Guro-gu official said, “To ensure residents' safety, we expanded hazardous tree maintenance from only the public sector to include the private sector starting last year,” adding, “We will do our best to promptly maintain hazardous trees to prevent casualties and property damage caused by natural disasters.”
