Total Project Cost of 8 Billion KRW in National and City Funds
Accelerating Smart City Development
Yangsan City in Gyeongnam has been selected for the second consecutive year as a local government for the high-precision electronic map construction project led by the National Geographic Information Institute, and will complete the construction of a high-precision electronic map across the entire city of Yangsan with a total project cost of 8 billion KRW, including 4 billion KRW in national funding and 4 billion KRW in city funds.
The high-precision electronic map construction project is one of the national tasks for the efficient use of national spatial resources, utilizing the latest technologies and equipment such as aerial and ground LiDAR, drones, and Mobile Mapping Systems (MMS) to build more precise and three-dimensional spatial information.
The first phase of the project is scheduled to begin in earnest after completing technical negotiations in early February, and the second phase will coordinate detailed schedules after signing an agreement with the National Geographic Information Institute.
Through this project, the city plans to secure high-precision spatial information data and introduce digital twin technology that can maximize urban operational efficiency, thereby establishing core data infrastructure for the creation of a smart city.
Digital twin technology is an innovative technology that replicates real-world objects in virtual space to enhance urban operation efficiency through various simulations.
The city expects this to support ▲analysis, prediction, and resolution of various local issues arising from urban growth ▲application in various administrative fields such as urban planning, transportation, environment, and disaster management to improve work accuracy and efficiency ▲and the discovery and provision of innovative smart services that citizens can experience.
A Yangsan City official stated, “Through this project, we have secured the core infrastructure necessary for the early establishment of a future-oriented smart city,” adding, “We will strive to contribute to improving citizens’ convenience and the quality of administrative services.”
