Additionally, the role of junior colleges in nurturing talent for new industries will be strengthened, and sustainable support measures will be explored through collaboration with local governments.
The 'New Industry Sector Specialized Leading Junior College Support Project' is a program designed to respond to the shortage of manpower in new industries due to industrial changes such as digital transformation, and to support junior colleges in playing a leading role in cultivating professional technical talent equipped with on-site job competencies. Since its launch in 2021, it has supported the cultivation of practical talent in new industry sectors through initiatives such as 'department restructuring, development and operation of field-customized curricula, and flexible academic management.' In the second phase of the project (2024?2026), which started in 2024, the support areas have been expanded to nurture diverse new industry talents, providing a total of 14.2 billion KRW to 17 junior colleges.
Lee Ju-ho, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, stated, "In the midst of rapid industrial changes, the core factor determining national competitiveness is the cultivation of talent for new industries, and the role of junior colleges is more important than ever." He added, "The Ministry of Education will continue to support junior colleges so that they can nurture talents who will lead future industries."
