The establishment of a new school in Godeok Gangil 3 District is a campaign pledge of Mayor Lee Su-hee during the 8th local government term. To promote the project, the mayor has personally met with the Minister of Education, the Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, and the head of the Gangdong-Songpa Education Support Office to convey the necessity of establishing the school. She has actively worked to keep promises to residents by continuously requesting the Seoul Metropolitan Government and SH Corporation for private sales in Complex 12 to secure the number of school-age children.

Additionally, regarding the establishment of the Dunchon-dong Middle School Urban Campus within the Olympic Park Foreon complex, after receiving a notification of unsuitability from the central investment review for the donation school site for middle school establishment, various measures have been explored to allocate an appropriate number of students in the area and improve educational conditions.

Then, in August of last year, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced the plan to promote the establishment of the ‘Dunchon-dong Middle School Urban Campus,’ accelerating the process. Gangdong-gu has continuously consulted with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and the Gangdong-Songpa Education Support Office to resolve this pressing issue.

Following the passage of the self financial investment review, the district announced that it will proceed with administrative procedures such as design competitions this year, aiming to open the schools in March 2029. On the 4th, Mayor Lee met with Jeong Geun-sik, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, and Jo Hyun-seok, head of the Gangdong-Songpa Education Support Office, requesting that the administrative procedures proceed smoothly after the review to ensure a safe commuting environment for students.

Mayor Lee Su-hee said, “I am pleased that students can attend school safely with the passage of the self financial investment review, and I will continue to oversee the progress until the schools are established,” adding, “I will continue to monitor the educational field to ensure safe and comfortable school life for students and take the lead in realizing educational welfare for future generations.”
