"Industrial Bank Relocation to Be Finalized This Year"... Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun Attends 'Departure Ceremony'

Busan Launches National Assembly Petition Campaign for Korea Development Bank Act Amendment
Mayor Park Declares, "2025 Will Be the Year to Complete the KDB Relocation to Busan"

Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun has initiated action, aiming to complete the relocation of the Korea Development Bank (KDB) to Busan within this year.

Busan City announced that Mayor Park will attend the launch ceremony for the National Assembly petition urging the revision of the Korea Development Bank Act, held at 2:30 p.m. on the 5th at the Sangui Hall of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

This petition initiative was organized to strongly convey local opinions to the National Assembly, the final hurdle, amid concerns that the relocation of the Korea Development Bank to Busan, the region’s biggest issue, might lose momentum and regress due to the chaotic political situation including the presidential impeachment motion.

About 100 people, including Mayor Park, Ahn Sung-min, Chairperson of the Busan City Council, members of the National Assembly, local business leaders, and youth, will attend the launch ceremony prepared by the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Local university students participating in the event expect that relocating the Korea Development Bank headquarters to Busan will significantly contribute to creating quality jobs and strengthening Busan’s competitiveness.

The event will proceed in the order of a welcome speech, congratulatory remarks, registration of the national petition and reading of the petition letter, joint signing by over 100 participants, and commemorative photo session.

Yang Jae-saeng, Chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will write in the petition, “Why now?”, “Why Busan?”, and “Why the Korea Development Bank?”, aiming to inform that this is a national solution rather than regional selfishness as the head of Busan’s economic organizations.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun declared a full-scale campaign, stating, “2025 will be the year to complete the relocation of the Korea Development Bank to Busan,” and added, “The preliminary administrative procedures for the relocation have virtually all been completed, and only the decision of the National Assembly remains. This petition will serve as a powerful opportunity to convey the wishes of Busan citizens to the National Assembly.”

Mayor Park also emphasized, “Recent National Assembly petitions have mostly involved conflicts such as impeachment of public officials and party dissolution amid extreme political strife, rather than policy-level petitions for law enactment or revision. If Busan citizens show united strength and will, as they did in the one million signature campaign urging the enactment of the Busan Global Hub City Special Act, it will sound an alarm in the National Assembly.”
