Over 100 Participants from Universities, Local Governments, Companies, and Institutions
National Pukyong National University (President Bae Sang-hoon) is establishing a regional university innovation alliance that encompasses universities, local governments, and companies and institutions.
On the 4th, National Pukyong National University announced that it will launch the ‘PKNU RISE Alliance’ on the 5th to successfully implement the Busan-type RISE system.
This alliance system is a special strategic consultative body established by National Pukyong National University to promote the Busan-type RISE project. It was selected mainly among companies and university-based enterprises that have carried out industry-academia-research joint projects among major companies and institutions in Busan participating in the RISE system.
About 100 people, including National Pukyong National University President Bae Sang-hoon, university officials, professors preparing for RISE specialized fields, local government officials, and representatives from regional companies and institutions, will attend the event held at 2 p.m. at the Pukyong Convention Hall.
Starting with a special lecture on the government’s local-government-industry-academia cooperation policy and future directions, attendees will be introduced to the RISE project promoted by National Pukyong National University and discuss collaboration strategies. National Pukyong National University plans to continuously expand the ‘PKNU RISE Alliance’ and utilize it as a key collaboration strategy for the Busan-type RISE project.
The Regional Innovation-centered University Support System (RISE) is a university support paradigm led by local governments that connects universities, companies, and research institutions. Busan City is promoting the project with a budget of 130 billion KRW in its first year, and local universities participate by choosing one of three types: research-centered, education-centered, or vocational and lifelong education-centered.
National Pukyong National University, as a research-centered university, is preparing its project plan focusing on three major specialized fields and nine detailed fields. The RISE alliance system plans to carry out various programs for nurturing research talents leading the region’s future industries and strengthening research and development together with National Pukyong National University.
National Pukyong National University has demonstrated strong local-government-industry-academia linkage capabilities. At the Yongdang Campus, known as Dragon Valley, about 740 employees from over 170 companies work. Through the Campus Innovation Park project, the only one in Busan, about 150 additional companies are expected to move in by 2030. Events such as the Dragon Valley Festival to strengthen the resident company network and the Unicorn Forum to support technical difficulties are also being operated.
President Bae Sang-hoon said, “As the largest local-government-industry-academia cooperation complex in the southeastern region, we already have the infrastructure for the RISE system,” adding, “Through the PKNU RISE Alliance, we will achieve the goals of the Busan-type RISE: talent development, employment and entrepreneurship, and regional settlement.”
