Certified Health Exercise Managers Provide Customized Strength Training Guidance Using Smart Equipment
Includes Health Status Reassessment and Follow-up Management
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Wono) announced that it is recruiting and identifying participants for the 'Frailty Prevention Muscle Strength Improvement Program' ahead of the full-scale operation of the 'Sageun Smart Healthcare Center (41 Sageun-dong-gil)'.
The 'Sageun Smart Healthcare Center' is Seongdong-gu's first smart healthcare center, opened on December 24. It provides customized health management services using information and communication technology (ICT) to prevent physical and mental frailty among residents, including the elderly, supporting healthy independence and a happy life.
Currently, the center is operating on a pilot basis aiming to provide integrated services such as muscle loss prevention through strength training, nutrition management, and mental healing. Under the guidance of health exercise managers, elderly participants directly experience physical function tests and smart exercise equipment, allowing them to check their physical condition and gain motivation for systematic exercise, receiving positive feedback from users.
Before the full-scale operation of the 'Sageun Smart Healthcare Center,' the district will recruit participants for the 'Frailty Prevention Muscle Strength Improvement Program' from February 3 to 21. Participants will be finally selected through internal review based on physical function evaluation results, including frailty level measurement.
Applicants will be categorized into five types?healthy, pre-frailty, frailty progression, etc.?based on frailty measurement results. Preventive-stage elderly in healthy and pre-frailty stages will be guided to apply for the program. Additionally, through cooperation with related organizations, the district plans to actively identify participants among frail elderly who are receiving care services.
Once participants are confirmed, certified health exercise managers will provide customized guidance on strength training methods using five types of smart exercise equipment twice a week (25?30 minutes per session) for a total of 12 weeks starting in March. The program will operate in a rotational exercise format with 3?4 people per course.
At the end of the program, health status will be measured and re-evaluated for follow-up management. Those who show improved physical function will be classified as autonomous exercise participants and allowed to exercise independently without additional guidance, while elderly requiring further coaching will have their program participation extended to continue health management.
In addition, the 'Sageun Smart Healthcare Center' operates programs for healthy lifestyle practices such as flexibility exercises, nutrition classes, meditation education, and mental health management through brainwave analysis. In the future, the center will actively support elderly participation in various linked programs operated by Seongdong-gu Public Health Center, Dementia Safety Center, and Seongdong-gu Sports Council. For inquiries about the program, detailed information can be obtained by calling the center.
The district is striving to build a 'Seongdong-type Integrated Elderly Care System' to enable healthy aging at home in response to the ultra-aged society. The 'Smart Healthcare Center' will be organically linked with various local institutions such as senior welfare centers, dementia safety centers, and mental health welfare centers to develop into a hub for integrated care services. The district plans to increase accessibility for elderly residents through continuous expansion and installation.
Jeong Wono, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “I hope that through the systematic health and care services of the 'Sageun Smart Healthcare Center,' elderly residents and others can enjoy a long and happy old age where they live.” He added, “We will continue to focus our administrative capabilities on building a ‘Seongdong-type Integrated Care System’ that integrally supports essential physical exercise, nutrition management, and mental health in an ultra-aged society.”
