Job Experience Available at 310 Organizations Including Public Institutions
The Gwangju City Government announced on the 3rd that it is recruiting 420 participants for the 17th class of “Dream Youth” for the first half of this year through the “Gwangju Youth Work and Experience Dream” program until the 19th.
“Gwangju Youth Work and Experience Dream” is a job program that supports local youth with work experiences suited to their job aptitude, competency enhancement training, and related activities. Since its launch in 2017, more than 7,200 young people have participated, building their professional skills at various workplaces in the region.
“Gwangju Youth Work and Experience Dream Plus” is open to all unemployed youth aged 19 to 39 who are registered residents of Gwangju.
This year, in particular, the program will operate in two types reflecting demand: a self-directed type (25 hours per week for 5 months) and an intensive participation type (40 hours per week for 3 months). The “Dream Youth” participants will work and gain experience at matched workplaces for either 25 hours a week for 5 months or 40 hours a week for 3 months, receiving a salary at the Gwangju living wage level (pre-tax, approximately 1.67 to 2.7 million KRW per month).
Applicants who are Hikikomori or self-reliance preparation youth, and others who need support for social entry, will receive preferential points. The city will identify eligible participants in cooperation with related organizations such as the Hikikomori Center and actively support their entry into the labor market as a vulnerable employment group.
To connect youth with workplaces, the city has recruited 310 “Dreamter” organizations for the 17th class, including Korea Power Exchange, Gwangju Credit Guarantee Foundation, Korea Alps Co., Ltd., Haeyang Energy Co., Ltd., Mudeung Enterprise Co., Ltd., as well as public institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, social economy companies, and social welfare institutions.
Youth wishing to participate can submit the first interview application form via the Work and Experience Dream website by the 19th. Interviews will be held for three days from the 17th to the 19th at the City Hall Citizen Hall. Results will be posted on June 26th on the Gwangju Youth Policy Platform, Gwangju Youth Work and Experience Dream, and the Gwangju City website respectively.
Kwon Yunsook, Director of Youth Policy, said, “Through the Work and Experience Dream program, an average of 800 young people each year have explored career paths and gained job experience. We will continue to actively support youth so they can have valuable work experiences and grow in the region.”
