A One-Year Program for 440 Learners at 7 Institutions Starting in March
Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is recruiting learners for this year's literacy education program that grants elementary and middle school diplomas.
According to the city office of education on the 3rd, this program was established to provide adults aged 18 and older, who missed educational opportunities, with a chance to obtain academic credentials.
Learners study basic knowledge necessary for daily life, and upon completion of the program, they can acquire academic credentials without taking the qualification exam.
The elementary diploma-granting institutions are Gwangju Wolsan Elementary School, Gwangju Songjeong Dagachi Culture Library, Deobureorak Gwangsangu Senior Welfare Center, and Gwangju Hope Lifelong Education Center (Foundation), with a total of 9 classes recruiting 230 learners. The middle school diploma program is offered at Chipyeong Middle School, Kumho Lifelong Education Center, and Gwangju Hope Lifelong Education Center (Foundation), with 8 classes recruiting 210 learners.
This program will operate for one year from March this year to February next year. The elementary course (levels 1, 2, and 3) consists of 240 hours of instruction, three times a week, while the middle school course (levels 1, 2, and 3) consists of 450 hours, also three times a week.
Recruitment for students will be conducted at each institution from February to March, so applicants should check with their desired institution before applying.
Superintendent Lee Jeongseon stated, "We will actively support the realization of the dream of learning regardless of age through diploma-granting literacy education."
Meanwhile, in 2024, a total of 98 people obtained academic credentials through the diploma-granting literacy education program, including 62 at the elementary level and 36 at the middle school level.
