Gwangju Office of Education and Local Universities to Launch 2.3 Billion Won Joint Project

63 Projects Including Musical Education Program

The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 2nd that it will carry out a cooperative project worth 2.3 billion KRW with local universities to improve educational conditions.

Last year, in response to declining school-age population, regional extinction, and the crisis facing local universities, the Office of Education signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with four universities?Chonnam National University, Chosun University, Gwangju National University of Education, and Suncheon National University?laying the groundwork for educational cooperation projects such as dispatching education cooperation officers.


This year, the Office will promote a total of 63 cooperative projects with six universities, including Gwangju Women's University and Nambu University.


Main projects include operating joint curricula, supporting basic academic skills, special and early childhood education, cultural and arts education, AI, semiconductor, convergence, and robotics technology, reading and financial/economic education, teacher training, psychological/emotional/counseling support, career/vocational and entrepreneurship education, and out-of-school programs.


In particular, 54 projects that received positive feedback last year?such as the community-linked expert lecture series 'Kkumdam Kkumdam' and the high school-university career education program 'Dream Workshop'?will continue, while nine new projects will be introduced, including the K-Entertainment Youth Camp 'Musical (Gala) Education Program,' designation and operation of a basic academic skills support center, and the establishment of a high school-university credit recognition system.


In addition, based on the education governance of local governments, the Office of Education, and universities, they will participate in the Educational Development Special Zone Project and the Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) project, cooperating to help local universities be selected as part of the Glocal University 30 initiative.


Superintendent Lee Jungseon stated, "We will further strengthen educational cooperation to nurture local talent and overcome the educational crisis."
