Gwangjin-gu Recruiting Students for 'Native Speaker Real-Time Video English Learning'

Tuition Support for 1,020 Students from Grade 1 to Grade 12 for Video English Learning
Real-Time One-on-One Classes with Native Instructors, Enrollment on a First-Come, First-Served Basis Starting Every Even Month on the 1st

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is operating a ‘Native Speaker Real-Time Video English Learning’ program to support students' English proficiency improvement.

The district is promoting this project so that students who lack opportunities to converse with native speakers can enjoy English and gain confidence through native speaker video English learning.

The program supports 1,020 elementary, middle, and high school students residing in Gwangjin-gu, with a total of six sessions conducted over two months each, accommodating 170 students per session.

For general students, part of the tuition fee, 44,000 KRW, is supported, while socially disadvantaged groups such as basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, and legally single-parent families receive full tuition support.

Classes are conducted through real-time conversations with native instructors, and starting this year, students can choose between two formats: one-on-one or one-on-three classes with instructors. After a preliminary test, classes are tailored to each student's level and held twice or three times a week for a total of 90 minutes.

Students wishing to enroll can apply on the Gwangjin-gu Native Speaker Video English website. Recruitment begins on February 1 on a first-come, first-served basis, and tuition support is provided for the two-month period from March to April. Every even month on the 1st, participants for the next two months are recruited on a first-come, first-served basis.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “These days, when there is so much to learn, the financial burden of education on students must be significant,” adding, “We will do our best to support our students so that they can study what they want without worrying about costs.”
