Busan Gaya High School Holds Unveiling Ceremony for Motto Stone
"Faithful Planning and Practice" Inscribed on School Grounds
Because of a single ‘stone,’ a ‘lightning strike’ occurred, and the alumni gathered 50 million won in just two weeks. Three weeks later, the unveiling ceremony of that stone was held.
The motto stone inscribed with ‘Faithful Planning and Practice’ was erected at the entrance of Busan Gaya High School, operated by the Myungin Academy Foundation, on the 21st.
On that day, Jeong Hun, Secretary General of the Gaya High School Alumni Association, introduced former and current alumni presidents and the principal attending the event. The eldest guest was Park Young-deok (92), a graduate of the first class, but unfortunately, he could not make it as promised, creating a somewhat regretful atmosphere. The oldest alumnus present was Jeon In-gi from the fourth class, aged 88 this year.
As Kim Hyun-gyeom, Honorary President of the Gaya High School Alumni Association and chairman of the motto stone construction committee, Son Byung-du, President of the Alumni Association, and Principal Park Hyung-jun unveiled the white cloth, the inscription ‘Faithful Planning and Practice’ was revealed.
Principal Park proposed at the end of last year to leave a motto on the school grounds for younger students to look up to and remember, and Kim Hyun-gyeom, then president of the Alumni Association, readily agreed, sparking a flurry of activity on the alumni band.
As chatter about fundraising for the motto stone construction spread through the band, 169 alumni and two of the school’s former teachers participated in the generous donations within two weeks. They raised 50 million won, and Ko Bu-gyu from the 30th class took charge of the production.
At the unveiling ceremony, Honorary President Kim Hyun-gyeom expressed that the motto stone would instill love for the alma mater among alumni and pride among current students.
Jeong Hun, Secretary General of the Alumni Association, added that the 74th class of new students enrolling this spring would continue the story and history of this stone.
On the 21st, teachers, alumni, and current students of Gaya High School in Busan, who attended the unveiling ceremony of the school motto stone, are shouting "Fighting."
