Flexible Bus Operations... Special Safety Inspections for Light Rail Transit

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that it will establish and implement a 'Special Traffic Measures' plan to provide safe and convenient transportation for citizens during the Lunar New Year holiday period.

The city has set the period from the 24th, when the main return home begins, to the 2nd of next month as the 10-day measure period and will operate a control center to monitor local traffic conditions 24 hours a day. The control center is prepared to promptly handle emergencies such as accidents or facility damage, and upon receiving important matters, it immediately notifies the Gyeonggi Province control headquarters and takes follow-up actions.

To ensure that citizens can smoothly use public transportation on their way home and back, buses will be operated flexibly according to demand, and taxi drivers are encouraged to actively operate during the Lunar New Year holiday period.

In addition, anticipating an increase in the use of special transportation for the disabled during the holiday period, the city has established vehicle maintenance and safety accident countermeasures and secured additional drivers who can be deployed on-site during the holiday.

The city will strengthen education for transportation workers to ensure traffic safety and respond to emergencies, and will check whether shift systems and rest facilities are properly maintained so that workers can take sufficient rest.

A special safety inspection will also be conducted on the Yongin Light Rail Transit. The light rail operator, Yongin Light Rail Transit, will inspect the management of station facilities, vehicle operation status, operation status of automated station equipment, special safety inspections of facilities, and whether plans for passenger safety accidents are established until the 30th. From the 27th to the 30th, the function will be further strengthened with a continuous inspection system.

Additionally, the city will promptly and accurately provide road traffic information through smartphones, road electronic display boards, and its website, and will secure a recovery system to prepare for bus information system operations and failures.

A city official said, "During the holiday period, transportation companies, police, fire departments, and the city's traffic-related departments will cooperate to ensure that citizens can use public transportation safely and conveniently."
