Busan Gijang-gun to Expand 'Barefoot Path Construction Project' This Year

A New Step for Residents' Health
Gijang County Expands the "Barefoot Path Creation Project"

Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) is expanding the “Barefoot Path Creation Project” this year to support the healthy and vibrant lives of its residents.

Recently, “barefoot walking” has been spreading nationwide as a new step toward a healthy life. In particular, barefoot paths are gaining attention not only as places for walking but also as healing spaces in harmony with nature.

In line with this trend, the county invested 1 billion KRW last year to create barefoot paths at Sodubang Park in Jeonggwan-eup, green spaces near the former site of Jangan High School in Ilgwang-eup, and Geonimgil Park in Cheolma-myeon, accelerating the “Barefoot Path Creation Project.”

This year, with an investment of 350 million KRW, the barefoot paths will be further expanded to Ilgwang Icheon Ecological Park and Mulgyul Madang Park in Gijang-eup. The “Barefoot Path Creation Detailed Design Service” is currently underway, with completion expected in March, followed by the commencement of full-scale construction.

Once the barefoot paths are completed, convenience facilities such as sand pavement, loess paths, loess ball fields, and foot baths will be installed, providing residents with a diverse and healthy walking environment. Especially, these locations offer excellent natural scenery, making them ideal for barefoot walking and allowing residents to enjoy nature while enhancing their health.

The county plans to actively support all Gijang residents in leading healthy and vibrant lives by continuously expanding nature-friendly facilities, including barefoot paths, and operating various environmental improvement activities and healing programs.

Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “The creation of barefoot paths will serve as an opportunity to spread a healthy life in harmony with nature beyond simple walking. I hope residents will walk barefoot paths close to nature, healing their body and mind, and enjoy a healthy and happy life.”

Walking barefoot is known to be very beneficial for health. It stimulates numerous nerve endings on the soles of the feet, promoting blood circulation, relieving stress, and aiding in the elimination of toxins from the body. It also improves balance and posture, while allowing one to feel the sounds of nature and the breeze, providing mental stability. In particular, barefoot paths made of loess and natural materials help heal the mind through contact with nature.
