Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province was selected as an excellent local government in the ‘2024 Summer Natural Disaster Countermeasure Promotion Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving the Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation and a special grant of 50 million KRW.
Every year, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety comprehensively evaluates metropolitan and basic local governments nationwide based on their performance in pre-disaster preparedness for summer and winter natural disasters, operation of disaster safety countermeasure headquarters, and actual disaster response efforts to select outstanding local governments.
In this evaluation, Suwon City received high scores for its summer preparedness, including ▲inspection of underground passages, rainwater inlets, and steep slopes ▲installation of emergency evacuation facilities in underground passages ▲conducting joint drills to prepare for flooding in river walking trails and underground passages.
Earlier, in November last year, Suwon City was also selected as an excellent institution (1st place) in the ‘2024 Summer Flood and Wind Disaster Comprehensive Evaluation’ hosted by Gyeonggi Province, securing 450 million KRW from the disaster management fund in the first half of this year.
A Suwon City official stated, "Following the Gyeonggi Province evaluation, Suwon City received favorable evaluations from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as well," adding, "We will thoroughly prepare for and respond to natural disasters in winter and summer to protect citizens' safety and minimize property damage."
