Democratic Party Nomination Confirmed
"By-election Caused by Crime of People Power Party Mayor"
On the 15th, the Democratic Party of Korea confirmed Oh Sehyun, a preliminary candidate for Mayor of Asan, South Chungcheong Province, as its official nominee.
Oh, who is running in the by-election scheduled for April 2, announced in a press release on the 15th, "I have been confirmed as the final candidate after being approved by the Democratic Party's 5th Central Committee held this morning."
He continued, "This election is to judge Yoon Sukyeol and the ruling party, who have threatened the nation's existence through insurrection," and argued, "Due to the lies and false information spread by Park Kyungkwi, the former Asan mayor from the People Power Party, an unnecessary dispute costing 2.3 billion KRW has led to this by-election."
Regarding the ruling party's decision to field a candidate, he criticized, "Han Donghoon, the former party leader, promised not to nominate a candidate in elections caused by the party's own fault," and added, "If they intend to break this promise, they should explain and apologize for it."
Meanwhile, Oh previously served as the 7th popularly elected Mayor of Asan, and currently holds positions as Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party's Chungnam Provincial Committee and Head of the An Junggeun Memorial Project Association's Asan branch.
In the 8th nationwide local elections held in June 2022, he narrowly lost to Park Kyungkwi, the former Asan mayor from the People Power Party, by a margin of 1,314 votes.
Park was ultimately stripped of his mayoral position after being convicted of spreading false allegations of real estate speculation against Oh during the election process.
