Five Sites Including Yeongsancheon in Naju Selected
Aimed at Disaster Prevention
Jeollanam-do announced on the 15th that it has secured 7 billion KRW in special disaster and safety grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to expedite local river disaster prevention projects.
Recently, the risk of disasters has increased as damages such as river flooding and embankment collapses have become more severe due to typhoons and heavy rainfall. Therefore, Jeollanam-do has been selecting urgent sections of local rivers with high disaster risk, explaining the urgency of these projects to the government, and continuously requesting national budget support.
The special grants secured this time will be allocated to a total of five projects: Yeongsancheon in Naju (1.9 billion KRW), Manbongcheon (1.9 billion KRW), Singwangcheon (1.2 billion KRW), Boknaechon in Boseong (1 billion KRW), and Daedeokcheon in Damyang (1 billion KRW).
Jeollanam-do plans to distribute the secured budget to the relevant cities and counties in January, complete urgent construction sections before the rainy season, and focus on project progress management, supervision, and inspections.
Jeollanam-do also plans to allocate 114.3 billion KRW (for 59 districts) to local river maintenance projects in the 2025 main budget, with more than 60% to be executed in the first half of the year, aiming to prevent natural disasters and contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
