People Power Party's Former Lawmaker Yoo Seung-min: "Constitutional Court and Judiciary Must Address President Yoon and Representative Lee Jae-myung Simultaneously"

"I Will Run for President Without Leaving the Party"
Revealed at Asia Forum 21

Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min said on the 14th, "The Constitutional Court and the judiciary must simultaneously deal with Yoon Seok-yeol and Lee Jae-myung."

Former lawmaker Yoo appeared at a discussion forum hosted by 'Asia Forum 21,' a gathering of mid-level journalists from the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, and stated, "The conflict between political camps is intensifying. If President Yoon Seok-yeol and Representative Lee Jae-myung are not settled, our politics cannot move forward," adding, "If this is not properly addressed, the conflict between camps will not disappear."

On the same day, former lawmaker Yoo claimed, "The state of emergency is the most serious political crisis since 1945. It is a crisis of the democratic republic and the rule of law, but as this situation has continued for over a month, the People Power Party's approval rating has risen, leading to an extreme confrontation between camps."

He pointed out, "After the state of emergency, the Democratic Party made a series of mistakes that the public could not accept, such as the investigation authority of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), excluding charges of rebellion, and the impeachment of Han Duck-soo. This was due to Representative Lee Jae-myung's impatience. Therefore, a life-or-death camp battle between President Yoon and Representative Lee broke out, spreading instability in democracy and the economy."

Former lawmaker Yoo expressed the view that "to prevent the deeply tangled national division, the judiciary must simultaneously deal with President Yoon and Representative Lee. The judiciary must take on the role of upholding one pillar of democracy."

He added, "Since 1987, eight presidents have emerged over 38 years, but most have been unhappy after leaving office. To reduce the powers of the imperial presidency and curb the tyranny of the majority party that frequently abuses impeachment, a constitutional amendment including the reduction of the National Assembly's powers is urgent. Before discussing presidential terms such as a single five-year term or a four-year renewable term, measures to reduce presidential powers should be considered."

Former lawmaker Yoo revealed, "I usually have the intention to participate in national governance and do not particularly want to deny the fact that I will run in the presidential election. Also, I have no intention of leaving the People Power Party. Currently, the People Power Party is not a sound conservative party. That is why I am raising my voice. However, I will not leave the party. Even during the last general election, there were temptations to join a new party, but I stayed in the party."
