On the 13th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will introduce badge case recorders to protect civil service officers from malicious complaints.

Icheon City Introduces Case Recorder on Civil Service ID Badges for Complaint Handling Staff A voice recorder inside the official ID case distributed to civil service employees handling civil complaints by Icheon City. Provided by Icheon City.

The city plans to first distribute this equipment to complaint counters in civil service offices, departments handling public affairs, and single-person work departments for pilot operation, then analyze its effectiveness before considering expansion.

Previously, in 2023, the city distributed portable video devices (wearable cams) to complaint offices in eup, myeon, and dong administrative welfare centers. With the introduction of badge case recorders, the city aims to prevent unexpected situations such as verbal abuse or assault during complaint handling and strengthen protection for officers in charge.

Kim Kyung-hee, Mayor of Icheon, stated, "This will protect officers from threats posed by malicious complaints during the response process and will also be useful for securing evidence in case of future legal actions." She added, "Recording files will be strictly managed in accordance with related guidelines such as personal information protection."
