Achievements in Preventing the Spread of Emerging Infectious Diseases

Choi Yoonkyung, Nurse at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, Receives Award from KDCA Chief Yoonkyung Choi is a nurse at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital.

Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced on the 13th that nurse Choi Yoonkyung received a commendation from the Director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency in recognition of her contributions to improving the level of infection control in the local community.


Since 2020, Nurse Choi has been working as an infection control nurse, taking the lead in establishing an efficient medical response system by managing patients with emerging infectious diseases and striving to prevent their spread.


She has continuously performed duties such as reporting and standard surveillance of legally notifiable infectious diseases, participating in the Korea Nosocomial Infections Surveillance System (KONIS), engaging in medical-related infection prevention and control projects, and educating infection control staff at small and medium-sized hospitals in Gwangju and Jeonnam, thereby raising the level of infection control at both the hospital and community levels.


She has also contributed to academic advancement by giving oral presentations on infection control activities related to the outbreak of multidrug-resistant bacteria at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, and has played a pivotal role in regional infection prevention by sharing infection control case studies with other medical institutions through poster presentations at the Honam Branch of the Korean Society for Healthcare-Associated Infection Control and Prevention.


Nurse Choi is also actively involved in volunteer work, including supporting the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation, fundraising for victims of the T?rkiye-Syria earthquake, supporting the Myanmar democratization movement, and providing support for hospice and palliative care patients.
