"Press Conference Was a Fraud, Kim Minjeon Was Also Used"
"Former Professor... Unaware of the Harsh Realities of Politics"
Kim Min-jeon, a member of the People Power Party, shared a conspiracy theory claiming that he was manipulated by figures affiliated with the Democratic Party, amid controversy over the withdrawal of a press conference held by the 'Anti-Communist Youth Group.'
On the 9th, Kim posted on his social media account, "I am sharing a text sent by a young person," and shared a conspiracy theory related to the press conference controversy. The anonymous author of the text stated, "The rumor that some citizens guarding the Hannam-dong presidential residence formed an armed group called the 'Baekgol-dan' has been proven false," adding, "They were simply order maintenance volunteers, similar to the Green Mothers’ Association guiding traffic, and the only item they held was a palm-sized warning light to indicate directions."

He continued, "Last weekend, young people who saw police officers getting their heads cracked by the violent actions of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (Minnocho) prepared work safety helmets just in case of accidents," and said, "Their true nature and reality are volunteer activities for the safety and order of citizens enduring the harsh cold wave together." He added, "The very naming of 'Baekgol-dan' reeks of framing operations. No group would deliberately use a three-syllable name that evokes fear and rejection among citizens," and raised a conspiracy theory that "upon investigation, there exists a specific faction that uses naive young people to flaunt its influence, and surprisingly, this faction has a long history of activity within the Democratic Party camp."
He said, "In short, it is a spy operation. The press conference held this morning at the National Assembly was a fraud, and even Representative Kim, who arranged the conference and allowed the use of the communication hall, was exploited," adding, "Kim, a former professor, still does not understand the harsh realities of politics and the brutality of the streets. He does not know how vile and cunning the Democratic Party side can be. Still, it is a great relief that he quickly corrected the mistake." Furthermore, he emphasized, "The rallies to protect the Republic of Korea will continue. The vile operations and divide-and-conquer tactics will become even more cunning," and stressed, "Patriotic citizens participating in protests must possess wise discernment as much as the courage to act."

Earlier, on the 9th at 1 p.m., Representative Kim led a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, introducing young supporters of President Yoon. At the time, he said, "The Baekgol-dan, who wore white helmets and held protests to defend the presidential residence near the president’s residence, is a subordinate organization of the Anti-Communist Youth Group," and added, "They will do their best to protect President Yoon and uphold the constitutional order of the Republic of Korea."
However, as the press conference became embroiled in controversy, Representative Kim explained, "I felt sorry for those who spent the night in the biting snowstorm," and said, "I was contacted to arrange the press conference, and I had no reason to refuse a small favor for them, so I made time between the Education Committee public hearing and the plenary session to hold it today." He then expressed his feelings, saying, "I feel heavy-hearted as arranging the press conference with the intention of helping them even a little seems to have made quite a few young supporters of President Yoon uncomfortable."
Despite this explanation, the controversy continued, and eventually, Representative Kim issued an additional statement. He said, "After the press conference, many young supporters of President Yoon Seok-yeol expressed that they did not agree with the use of the name 'Baekgol-dan' because it could give the leftists a justification," and added, "Accordingly, we have actively accepted this position and decided to withdraw the press conference held today." He also apologized, saying, "I regret not properly understanding the opinions of the majority of President Yoon’s young supporters and arranging the press conference without accurately grasping the information and background of the press conference participants," and requested, "I want to emphasize that this incident should not become an opportunity to distort young people who want to hold voluntary and peaceful protests as violent protest groups."
