Democratic Party "Choi Sang-mok, Acting President, Reported for Neglect of Duty"

"Yoon's Failure to Prevent Warrant Execution Effectively Neglects the Situation"

The Democratic Party of Korea has filed a complaint with the National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters against Acting Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok on charges of dereliction of duty.

On the 7th, the Democratic Party's Legal Committee held a press conference at the National Assembly and stated, "Acting Prime Minister Choi is being reported for allegedly neglecting to prevent the Presidential Security Service's illegal execution of an arrest warrant during the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office's attempt to execute an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol, by refusing the request to instruct the Security Service to cooperate."

The Democratic Party pointed out, "While Acting Prime Minister Choi remained silent on the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office's request for cooperation, he responded to the Presidential Security Service's request to expand security personnel by directly contacting the police and saying 'Please review it.' Furthermore, no personnel actions have been taken against Park Jong-jun, the head of the Security Service, and other senior officials who refused due process."

The reasons for Choi's dereliction of duty also include delaying the recommendation process for the 'Permanent Special Prosecutor for Insurrection,' which passed the National Assembly at the end of last year, for over a month, and failing to appoint Ma Eun-hyuk, a Constitutional Court Justice, and Ma Yong-ju, a Supreme Court Justice, who were elected by the National Assembly.

The Democratic Party emphasized, "The president's appointment of candidates elected by the National Assembly is merely a formality, and both the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court have recently declared the necessity for prompt appointments for the same reason. Acting Prime Minister Choi is clearly neglecting his duties."

They urged, "We hope that investigative agencies will immediately and swiftly begin investigations into Acting Prime Minister Choi, who is effectively neglecting his duties and allowing acts of insurrection to persist."
