Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 7th that it will fully expand the support targets for replacing old water pipes that produce rust-colored water.
Until now, the city provided support for single-family and small multi-family housing as well as common pipes in large-scale housing complexes, but starting this year, support will be expanded to include individual pipes in large-scale multi-family housing complexes (with long-term repair reserve funds).
The city promulgated the "Partial Amendment to the Water Supply Ordinance Enforcement Rules" containing these details and revised the "Guidelines for Supporting the Replacement Costs of Old Indoor Water Supply Pipes." Accordingly, by securing additional budget, the city will promote a project to replace old water pipes for 290 single-family and multi-family households, with a budget of 330 million KRW.
The support targets are houses that have been completed for more than 20 years, have a net floor area of 130㎡ or less, have water pipes made of galvanized steel pipes, and were judged unsuitable in on-site water quality inspections.
Replacement costs will be supported differentially from 90% to 30% of the standard construction cost for water pipe replacement, depending on the net floor area per household. For basic livelihood security recipients and low-income households, the project cost will be fully supported. Individual pipes can receive up to 1.8 million KRW, and common pipes up to 600,000 KRW, with a total support of up to 2.4 million KRW.
However, houses that have received approval for redevelopment, reconstruction, remodeling, or similar projects, or houses that have received support for improvements within the last five years, are excluded. The application period for the project is until the end of November this year, and it may end early if the budget is exhausted within the period.
Since 2010 until last year, Bucheon City has supported a total of 4,3659 single-family and multi-family households with 16.87 billion KRW, supplying clear tap water to citizens who experienced inconvenience due to rust-colored water.
