Changwon Special Mayor Hong Nampyo, "2025 Will Definitely Be the Year of Leap and Soaring as the Northeast Asia Hub"
On the 2nd, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam opened the new year with the 2025 Eulsa Year Opening Ceremony at the City Hall Citizen Hall, pledging to focus entirely on public welfare administration and deliver tangible results that citizens can feel.
On this day, about 200 senior officials, including Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, attended the event, which began with a moment of silence for the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident. As it is a national mourning period, the ceremony was held quietly and simply.
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, is delivering a greeting at the Eulsa Year New Year's ceremony.
Mayor Hong first expressed his condolences, saying, “I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the victims of the passenger plane accident and their families.” In his New Year's address, he emphasized the direction of city administration, stating, “This year, Changwon will leap forward and soar as the center of Northeast Asia,” and “To achieve this, we must fully generate tangible results that citizens can feel based on the solid administrative foundation built during the 8th term of the elected government.”
In particular, he highlighted that in 2024, major projects such as ▲establishing the vision for Changwon National Industrial Complex ▲designation as a digital free trade zone ▲opening of the Wonidaro S-BRT, along with discovering and promoting life-oriented projects, have laid the groundwork and set the direction for city administration. Now, the key is to execute these with “speed and strong implementation” so that citizens can feel the impact. He urged all public officials, led by senior officials, to strive for the realization of key project outcomes according to the city’s strategic plans.
Furthermore, amid high domestic and international uncertainties such as the launch of the second Trump administration in the U.S. and changes in domestic political situations, he stressed the importance of crisis management. He called for strengthening monitoring by sector, preparing core project response strategies, and agile responses. He also did not forget to mention the smooth progress of the preliminary feasibility study for the new national industrial complex and the neutron complex beam irradiation facility, which have been somewhat delayed due to the turbulent political climate.
He also showed a commitment to emphasizing public welfare administration directly related to citizens’ lives. Mayor Hong said, “There are concerns about domestic demand stagnation due to recent national turmoil,” and urged, “Please spare no effort in activating domestic demand and stabilizing public welfare by fully utilizing administrative resources such as strengthening events linked to local small businesses, early budget execution, and improving local order acquisition rates, as well as providing meticulous care and support to neighbors in need.” He reaffirmed the direction of city administration for 2025.
