Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province will expand policies next year targeting families, youth, and national veterans to overcome low birth rates and strengthen support and care for future generations.
First, the city will provide free health checkups for prospective parents preparing for their first pregnancy. Eligible individuals are those registered as residents in Bucheon who are engaged or newlywed couples, and they can receive free tests for 31 items including hepatitis B, liver function, anemia, and blood sugar. Women will also receive a rubella test.
Even without prior application, from January 2 next year, visitors can receive tests immediately by visiting the maternal and child health centers at Bucheon City, Sosa, or Ojeong Public Health Centers.
Tax benefits for multi-child families have also been prepared. Starting January 1 next year, families registered in Bucheon with two or more children and at least one child under 18 will receive a 5% discount on their water bill charges. Previously, a discount was only available if there were three or more children under 18 in the same household.
Eligible individuals can apply by visiting the administrative welfare center of their resident registration jurisdiction with an ID card or through the city’s water and sewage fee payment website. The discount will be applied from the billing cycle following the application date and is not retroactive.
In June next year, a dedicated space for youth in Bucheon will open near Sosa-ro in Ojeong-gu. Equipped with program rooms, seminar rooms, counseling rooms, a cafe, and open rooms, it will provide youth-tailored information on employment, finance, and culture, as well as networking opportunities through support for individual and small group spaces. Any youth aged 19 to 39 residing in Bucheon can use this youth hub.
The city has also newly allocated nursing care expenses for vulnerable national veterans. Eligible recipients are national veterans who have been hospitalized for more than one month at a national veterans hospital commissioned within the region, are registered residents of Bucheon, have lived in the city for more than six months, are aged 65 or older, and meet the relevant legal criteria.
Nursing care expenses will be supported at 20,000 KRW per day for up to 180 days. When a national veteran applies at the commissioned hospital, Bucheon City will verify the application and provide the nursing care expenses to the hospital accordingly.
