Comedian Park Narae, who hails from Muan, Jeollanam-do, was reported on the 29th to have donated funds to support the victims of the Jeju Air disaster that occurred in her hometown.

On the 30th, a representative from Park Narae's side stated, "It is true that Park Narae delivered a donation through the local government today to support the victims of the passenger plane disaster." They added, "She does not wish to disclose the amount of the donation."

Park Narae was born in Muan County, Jeollanam-do, and spent her childhood in Mokpo. When she won the Grand Prize at the 2019 MBC Entertainment Awards, her hometown proudly displayed a congratulatory banner reading "Park Narae, MBC Entertainment Awards Winner." Previously, Park Narae had also expressed her sorrow and condolences for the victims of the passenger plane accident through her social media accounts.

The government declared Muan County, Jeollanam-do, a special disaster area and set a national mourning period until the 4th of next month. The entertainment industry also joined in mourning by canceling scheduled concerts and events. Singer Kim Jang-hoon canceled his scheduled concert in Suncheon on the 29th. He wrote on Facebook, "(Muan) is not just anywhere but a neighboring town of Suncheon, so I cannot proceed with the performance nor do I have the heart to do so." Singer Lee Seung-hwan also canceled his 35th-anniversary concert, which was to be held at the Cheonan Arts Center in Chungnam on the 4th of next month.

Meanwhile, the accident occurred on the morning of the 29th at 9:03 a.m. when Jeju Air flight 7C2216, departing from Bangkok, Thailand, and heading to Muan International Airport, attempted a belly landing due to a landing gear malfunction but collided with a concrete embankment at the end of the runway. According to fire authorities, out of 181 passengers on board, 179 died, and only 2 crew members were rescued, marking a major disaster. This accident remains the deadliest aviation accident in South Korea in terms of human casualties.
