Bereaved Family Expresses Concern: "The Body May Decompose Rapidly"

A refrigerated container has been deployed at the temporary morgue at Muan Airport, where the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster occurred.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 30th, the accident response authorities installed about 10 refrigerated containers near the temporary morgue set up in the hangar at Muan Airport to preserve the bodies.

Earlier, the bereaved families' council requested the prompt deployment of additional refrigerated containers, stating, "Although it is winter, the temperature is rising, and there may be a situation where the bodies rapidly decompose."

The authorities expect it will take about ten days to complete the autopsies by comparing DNA information with the families one by one, as many bodies are severely damaged.

Accordingly, the funeral procedures are also expected to be delayed. Once identification and autopsy are completed, the bodies will be placed in funeral halls preferred by each bereaved family.
