Strengthening Employment and Entrepreneurship Skills for the New Middle-Aged... Providing Opportunities for Life Redesign
Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) has completed the first session of the Master Brewer Training Program for Middle-aged Adults, a course under the Busan City 50+ Life Redesign University project commissioned by Busan City.
Selected as the commissioned operator of Busan City 50+ Life Redesign University this year, Dong-Eui Institute of Technology ran the first session of the Master Brewer Training Program for Middle-aged Adults for about four months starting in May, aiming to strengthen the brewing-related employment and entrepreneurship capabilities of the middle-aged population. The university also supported post-course club activities for 44 graduates until December.
The curriculum was centered on brewing theory and practical field training, including ▲understanding basic brewing principles ▲brewing manufacturing practice (beer and Makgeolli) ▲side dish cooking practice suitable for brewing. It also featured a middle-aged tailored program with content that can be linked to actual employment and entrepreneurship, such as ▲exploring middle-aged job information ▲special lectures on craft brewing startup cases ▲team-based manufacturing simulation practice.
After the course ended, until December, the program provided opportunities to broaden knowledge and gain practical employment and entrepreneurship information in the brewing field through post-course club activities for graduates, including ▲obtaining the Brewmaster Certificate (a private qualification issued in the president’s name) ▲visits to private breweries ▲participation in the Busan International Liquor & Wine Expo ▲experiences at private craft beer workshops.
With the first session, Dong-Eui Institute of Technology achieved a 100% completion rate, 99% certification acquisition rate, 91% satisfaction rate, and five admissions linked to the Department of Brewing and Fermentation Science on campus. The university also provided school facilities, brewing practice programs, and special lectures for club members, offering continuous education opportunities for middle-aged adults. Furthermore, the university plans to create pathways for the club to participate in local festivals and volunteer donations, contributing to the regional economy.
Kim Tae-kyung, Director of the Lifelong Education Center at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, stated, “There is an increasing need for realistic support measures and continuous education to help local middle-aged adults prepare for old age as an economically active population. The Master Brewer Training Program for Middle-aged Adults reflects these needs by training specialized personnel.” He added, “We will actively utilize the university’s excellent infrastructure to meet the expectations of middle-aged adults for lifelong education and support various programs to revitalize middle-aged employment.”
Dong-Eui Institute of Technology is preparing for the second session in 2025, with recruitment scheduled to begin in April. Anyone aged 50 to 64 residing in Busan can apply. For more details, please contact the Lifelong Education Center at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology.
