"We Will Make Every Effort to Take Necessary Measures"
Promise to Support Academic and Psychological Treatment for Bereaved Families and Surrounding People
It has been confirmed that 12 of the victims in the Jeju Air plane crash tragedy were students. The education authorities announced that they will take all necessary measures, including academic and psychological support for the bereaved families and those around them.
At a regular briefing held at the Government Complex Sejong on the 30th, Ministry of Education spokesperson Koo Yeon-hee stated, "No university students have been counted, and the total number of victims from elementary, middle, high schools, and daycare centers is 12," adding, "By school level, there are 4 elementary students, 3 middle school students, 4 high school students, and 1 daycare child."
By education office, the victims were confirmed to belong to five metropolitan and provincial offices of education: Jeonnam, Gwangju, Sejong, Gyeonggi, and Jeonbuk.
Before the briefing, spokesperson Koo expressed condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims related to the Muan Jeju Air tragedy that occurred yesterday, saying, "The government will make every effort to take all necessary measures."
It was confirmed that out of the 181 passengers on board the Jeju Air plane crash that occurred the previous day at Muan International Airport in Jeonnam, 179 died, excluding 2 surviving crew members. Authorities are currently conducting identification and recovery of remains.
The Ministry of Education formed a dedicated situation management team the previous day to monitor the damage situation. In addition, a 24-hour emergency communication system between the Ministry of Education and the education offices has been established and will be operated until the situation is resolved.
Spokesperson Koo explained, "We will provide academic support and psychological treatment for those in need, including the families and friends around the victims," adding, "A central recovery headquarters has been set up, and we plan to cooperate and respond accordingly."
