"If there’s ever a (plane) crash, send me a KakaoTalk message saying 'Find a part-time job' before telling your dad or mom. So there won’t be any absences."

On the 29th, a major tragedy occurred when a Jeju Air passenger plane crashed at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do, killing 179 people. Amid this, a franchise cafe owner’s outrageous remarks to part-time workers have sparked public outrage.

On that day, SNS user A posted on X (formerly Twitter), "Everyone, let’s not consume at ○○ Department Store. Is this something you say to part-time workers? Aren’t you ashamed as an adult? It’s a lack of humanity," along with a screenshot of a KakaoTalk message from the franchise cafe owner. The message read, "Did you see the plane crash today? Some kids go abroad during vacation, so if a crash happens, send me a KakaoTalk message saying 'Find a part-time job' before telling your dad or mom. So there won’t be any absences."

A, who revealed they worked part-time there, said, "The owner’s inappropriate touching was a daily occurrence, and he called part-time workers pigs and dogs. After three months, he said, 'I said harsh things on purpose. You who endured passed the test,' and brushed it off," expressing anger. They added, "I worked there for a full six months and quit because of how awful it was, but he still acts like that." They emphasized, "The store on the 4th floor is his own, and he cherishes it, so that store should be boycotted."

Netizens who heard the news reacted strongly, saying things like, "Is he crazy during the national mourning period?" "He gave up being human," "Does he think this is funny?" "This cafe should go bankrupt," "He’s not even human," "If there’s an accident, the owner should contact part-time workers before parents and tell them not to come to work," "How can anyone make humor out of this accident?" "I’m so shocked my hands are shaking," and "You can clearly see what kind of owner he is," among other heated responses. Some netizens filed complaints with the franchise cafe’s headquarters, and also reported the incident to the 'Customer Voice' section of the department store where the cafe is located. At the same time, one-star review attacks have been flooding the cafe’s KakaoMap page.
