[Polpol News] 60.4% Say Opposition Must Win Next Presidential Election vs 32.3% Favor Ruling Party's Continued Administration

Democratic Party Support Rate 45.8%, People Power Party 30.6%

Amid political turmoil with President Yoon Seok-yeol impeached and suspended from office, and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, acting president, also impeached and suspended, the support rate for the Democratic Party showed a declining trend. Regarding the next presidential election, the theory of regime change favoring the opposition was found to be dominant.

According to a public opinion poll released on the 30th by polling firm Realmeter (commissioned by Energy Economy Newspaper, conducted on the 26th-27th targeting 1,001 voters aged 18 and over nationwide, 97% wireless, 3% wired, using automated response method; margin of error ±3.1 percentage points at 95% confidence level; response rate 4.6%), the Democratic Party's support rate dropped by 4.5 percentage points to 45.8%. The People Power Party's support rate rose by 0.9 percentage points to 30.6%. The Innovation Party and Reform Party recorded 6.0% and 3.0%, respectively.

With the Constitutional Court beginning the impeachment trial of President Yoon, raising the possibility of an early presidential election, a preference survey for the next ruling party was also conducted.

The survey results showed that 60.4% agreed with regime change by the opposition, while 32.3% agreed with the ruling party's continuation of power. In most regions, the trend of regime change was larger, consistent with the overall poll results. However, in Daegu-Gyeongbuk (TK), regime change was at 50.0%, and regime continuation at 39.4%. Particularly in Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (PK), regime change was 45.2%, and regime continuation was 44.8%, showing similar levels.
