People Power Party "Unprecedented Impeachment of Acting President... Sloppy and Embarrassing"

The People Power Party stated on the 27th that the impeachment of Acting President and Prime Minister Han Deok-su is "too flimsy and embarrassing to be called an unprecedented reason for impeaching an acting president."

Seo Ji-young, the floor spokesperson for the People Power Party, commented on the vote on the impeachment motion against Acting President Han, saying, "The Democratic Party has proceeded with the impeachment process against the acting president for ‘national devastation,’ following the impeachments of the president, the head of the Board of Audit and Inspection, the Minister of Justice, the chief of the Central District Prosecutors' Office, and frontline prosecutors."

Regarding the reasons for impeachment presented by the Democratic Party, she summarized them as follows: As Prime Minister, ① presiding over a Cabinet meeting to request reconsideration of an unconstitutional special prosecutor bill, ② conspiring because he opposed but failed to prevent martial law, ③ issuing a statement pledging close cooperation with the ruling party for national stability; and as Acting President, ④ the delay in appointing a special prosecutor under the unconstitutional permanent special prosecutor law, and ⑤ intending to carefully review the appointment of constitutional court justices, which is a presidential authority.

Earlier, Acting President Han had requested bipartisan agreement through a national address, withholding appointments of three constitutional court justices elected by the National Assembly, and called for renegotiation between the ruling and opposition parties on the special prosecutor law, thereby postponing its promulgation.
