43,000 Won Seongsimdang Strawberry Siru
Appears on Secondhand Trading Site for '140,000 Won'
"Including Transportation Fee (65,000 Won), Service Fee (30,000 Won)
Calculated to Sell at 140,000 Won"
As crowds from all over the country flock to buy Seongsimdang's Strawberry Siru Cake, a representative bakery in Daejeon, posts offering proxy purchase services are appearing on various secondhand trading platforms.
Earlier, Seongsimdang announced the Christmas cake sales schedule on its official website. Among them, the most eye-catching is the Strawberry Siru Cake. The Strawberry Siru Cake is Seongsimdang's winter season cake, famous as a "cost-effective cake" that contains "an entire box of strawberries." It is popular every year for its excellent taste and price, which is less than half that of expensive hotel cakes priced between 100,000 and 200,000 KRW.
When the notice was announced that the Strawberry Siru Cake could only be purchased at the Seongsimdang main store without prior reservation and that the purchase quantity was limited to one per person, various online communities and social networking services (SNS) were filled with reviews of people who went beyond open runs (waiting in front of the store to rush in as soon as it opens to buy the desired item) to early morning runs (lining up from dawn before opening) to buy the cake.
On the 25th, a post titled "Seongsimdang Strawberry Siru Resale" on a bulletin board revealed a situation where a user on a secondhand trading app was selling the cake at a premium. A user who posted the Seongsimdang Strawberry Siru on Danggeun Market wrote, "Looking for someone to buy the Strawberry Siru I bought this afternoon," adding, "Selling it for 140,000 KRW, which includes the regular price of 43,000 KRW plus toll and fuel costs (65,000 KRW) and a service fee (30,000 KRW)." Comments on the post included "How many times are they inflating the price?" "In the end, they might eat it themselves," "Seongsimdang makes the bread, but they make the money," "There seems to be demand," and "Honestly, I don't want to wait, but I want to buy it."
However, Seongsimdang prohibits such resale activities. Recently, through its website, Seongsimdang warned, "There may be legal sanctions for proxy purchases (third-party sales)" and urged, "Let's meet Seongsimdang products only at Seongsimdang." Meanwhile, the Strawberry Siru, which began sales on the 23rd, is expected to be produced until early April.
