Hwaseong City Expands Citizen Safety Insurance Coverage for Injury Medical Expenses from 700,000 to 1,000,000 Won

Hwaseong City announced on the 26th that it will raise the coverage range of the Citizen Safety Insurance in celebration of its launch as a special city next year. This coverage amount is the highest among local governments. The city explained that this decision was made to provide practical assistance to citizens and enhance the level of welfare.

Citizen Safety Insurance is a free insurance that supports various accidents or disasters occurring domestically for any citizen registered as a resident within the jurisdiction. The coverage targets citizens registered in Hwaseong City, including registered foreigners and overseas Koreans with domicile registration. It is provided without any separate subscription procedure, and the coverage period is from January 1 to December 31 of next year.

The injury medical expense coverage applies to the out-of-pocket medical expenses for treatment of injury accidents occurring domestically. Covered incidents include ▲bicycle accidents ▲natural disasters ▲mountain climbing accidents ▲fire and explosion ▲electric shock accidents ▲falls and collapses ▲water-related accidents (drowning and near-drowning) ▲agricultural machinery accidents, among most injury accidents.

Next year's Citizen Safety Insurance coverage items, in addition to injury medical expenses, include ▲injury death funeral support fund (up to 20 million KRW, for those aged 15 and older) ▲child pedestrian traffic accident injury treatment expenses (50,000 to 5,000,000 KRW, grades 14 to 1, for children under 13 years old), with a total compensation limit of 3.5 billion KRW.

Insurance claims must be filed within three years for treatments received within one year from the date of the accident during the contract period. However, insurance payments may not be made if the total insurance coverage limit is exhausted.

Jung Myung-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong City, said, "We will do our best to operate more effective insurance to stabilize the livelihood economy of Hwaseong citizens who have suffered from unexpected disasters and accidents."
