In Italy, a cafe where a grandmother over 100 years old personally brews coffee is gaining attention.
On the 25th (local time), the British daily The Guardian introduced Anna Fosie, the owner and barista of the cafe 'Bar Centrale' located in the town of Nebiuno in northern Italy. Fosie is famous as the oldest barista in Italy. On her 100th birthday last month on the 16th, quite a few outsiders flocked to the cafe to celebrate her birthday.
Fosie first started the cafe in 1958. She ran the cafe with her husband, and at that time, the cafe was bustling with customers who wanted to dance to the music from the jukebox installed in the store. During this time, Fosie served espresso and cappuccino to the customers. Her husband passed away in 1974, but Fosie continued to run the cafe while raising their two children. Fosie kept the cafe open on holidays including Sundays and Christmas, and she never took a vacation.
The Italian government recently awarded Fosie the title of 'Honorary Grand Commander of the Republic' in recognition of her dedication as a barista up to the age of 100 and her contributions to the local community. Now, about 66 years after opening the cafe, Fosie and the cafe have become important figures in the local community. It is known that many residents visit the cafe to talk with Fosie. Recently, Fosie also installed bookshelves so that residents can read books while drinking coffee at the cafe.
Fosie introduced socializing with others as her secret to longevity. She advised the younger generation to "choose what you love" and said, "I will continue to be a barista as long as my health allows."
