Police have launched an investigation into allegations that martial law troops were deployed to the National Assembly Speaker's official residence immediately after the resolution to lift martial law was passed in the National Assembly.

The Special Investigation Unit for Martial Law under the National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters announced on the 26th that they are investigating the facts related to the allegations.

Earlier, Kim Min-ki, Secretary General of the National Assembly Secretariat, released CCTV footage showing what appeared to be martial law troops, presumed to be an arrest squad, walking along the wall of the Speaker's official residence at around 1:42 a.m. on the 4th. He also stated that troops were seen gathering at the main gate of the residence at around 1:50 a.m., approximately 50 minutes after the resolution to lift martial law was passed in the National Assembly.

Kim further claimed that the martial law troops, presumed to be the arrest squad, were seen patrolling around the residence until 4:45 a.m., about 15 minutes after martial law was officially lifted at 4:30 a.m.

A police official explained, "We are investigating the basic facts, including identifying the affiliations of the individuals in the footage."

Some have raised suspicions that the deployment of troops was intended to arrest Woo Won-sik, then Speaker of the National Assembly, as he was reportedly a target for arrest at the time.

In response, Kim Seon-ho, Acting Minister of National Defense, clarified at the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee plenary session on the 24th that the troops in question were "forces under the Capital Defense Command deployed to strengthen the security of the official residence," denying that they were martial law troops.
