The Academy is the most prestigious organization in the field of engineering technology in Korea. The Academy announced the list of new members for 2025 on the 27th. Forty-eight regular members and sixty-nine general members were selected as new members.

Every year, the Academy conducts a member selection process that includes candidate discovery and recommendation in the first half of the year, followed by a four-stage achievement review in the second half. Only regular members can recommend candidates. The selection process evaluates not only academic achievements but also world-first technology development, patents, talent cultivation, and contributions to industrial development, followed by a written vote by all regular members to finalize the selection.

Members are classified into regular members, general members, emeritus members, and foreign members. Regular members are selected from general members under the age of 65 through achievement review and a written vote by all regular members. The term of office is five years.

In academia, 25 individuals including Kim Young-oh, Dean of the College of Engineering at Seoul National University, and Jang Gil-soo, Dean of the College of Engineering at Korea University, were selected as regular members. The Academy commented on Dean Kim, saying, "He achieved international academic accomplishments in the field of water resources while serving as the head of the National Climate Change Research Group. He also led creative engineering education and contributed to expanding the foundation of science and technology by serving as the executive director of the Science and Technology Policy Institute."

General members are those under 65 years old who have been approved by the Academy’s board of directors. Their term is three years.

Among the 69 general members for next year, 45 are from industry and 34 from academia. From industry, Nam Seok-woo, CTO and President of Samsung Electronics DS Division Foundry Business Unit, and Kim Dong-myung, CEO of LG Energy Solution, were listed. Kim Ki-nam, President of the Korean Academy of Engineering, said, "Ahead of the Academy’s 30th anniversary next year, we took extra care and deliberation in selecting members. We reflected on the past 30 years and did our best to invite individuals who can lead Korea’s engineering community for the next 30 years as members."
