"Social Deprivation Arises... Concerns Over Decline in Military Service Obligation"
Emergency Survey Conducted Targeting Seoul City and Affiliated Organizations
Controversies Over Overseas Travel During Service, Sick Leave, Annual Leave, Hospitalization
As controversy arose over the attendance of social service agent Song Minho from the group WINNER, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon ordered a full investigation of social service agents. Currently, the Military Manpower Administration is also investigating allegations related to Song Minho's service.
On the 24th, Mayor Oh stated on Facebook, "Recently, there has been a controversy regarding the negligence of duty by a celebrity serving as a social service agent," adding, "There must never be a situation where social deprivation arises due to some individuals' negligence of duty, leading to increased resentment toward military service obligations."
He continued, "Therefore, I have ordered an 'urgent full investigation into the service status of social service agents' targeting Seoul city and its affiliated organizations," and said, "We will take strict measures based on the investigation results and, if necessary, actively propose improvements to the Military Manpower Administration for a fair military service system."
Song Minho, who has been serving as a social service agent at a facility in Mapo-gu, Seoul since March last year, has been caught up in a controversy over inadequate service. The entertainment media Dispatch reported on the 17th that Song Minho was suspected of not properly performing his duties. In particular, the media reported that Song Minho traveled abroad last October and was not seen working afterward, and the facility explained that Song Minho was on "sick leave," "annual leave," or "hospitalized."
However, his agency YG Entertainment explained, "The sick leave was an extension of treatment he had been receiving before his service, and all other leaves were used in accordance with regulations."
