Busan National University Language Education Institute, Customized 1:1 Instructor-Student Matching for American University and Graduate Students
Online Education from October to December... Providing Advanced Korean Language Education and Immersive Language Learning
Busan National University (President Choi Jae-won) Language Education Institute (Director Hyun Soo-kyung, Professor of Nursing) operated the ‘CLS Refresh Program’ for graduates of the Korean language education program ‘Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program,’ commissioned by the U.S. Department of State, for two months from October 21 to December 20.
Since 2018, Busan National University has been running the CLS program, providing Korean language education and cultural experience opportunities to scholarship students from U.S. universities (graduate schools). Based on the successful operation of the CLS program, since 2021, Busan National University has also been in charge of the online Korean language education program ‘CLS Refresh Program’ for graduates, the first of its kind in Korea.
This program was designed to create an environment where graduates can continue learning Korean even in their home countries, strengthening their motivation to study Korean language and culture and helping to improve their practical language skills.
The CLS Refresh Program provided a customized learning environment online through 1:1 matching between instructors and students. Students were able to study at their desired topics and pace, gaining an in-depth understanding of Korean and immersive language learning opportunities.
This year, the program was expanded from one session to two sessions to offer learning opportunities to more graduates. The Language Education Institute of Busan National University plans to contribute to promoting Korean language and culture and provide high-quality Korean language education to global talents through continuous improvement and expansion of the program.
Hyun Soo-kyung, Director of the Language Education Institute at Busan National University, said, “The growing popularity of the CLS Refresh Program is thanks to the effectiveness of the Korean language education programs our university offers and the high satisfaction of learners,” adding, “We will do our best to develop Korean language education programs that can provide practical help to U.S. university (graduate) students interested in Korean.”
