"Lost Trust of 2030 Generation Due to Martial Law Crisis"
"Trying to Avoid the 'River of Impeachment' but Falling into the 'Sea of Martial Law'"
"Party Must Rebuild Through Painful Self-Reflection"
People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo mentioned the ruling party's crisis and said reflection and reform are necessary.
On the 19th, Ahn posted a message titled "Without a desperate reform, the party will face an existential crisis" on his social media account. He opened by saying, "Since the imposition of martial law, our party has become more distant from the people," and added, "Even conservative media outlets are rushing to warn of the risks of becoming a Yeongnam party or an extreme right-wing party." He continued, "Especially through this incident, we have lost the trust of not only the public but also the 2030 generation. Although we have long called for a nationwide party and expansion of our base, the party has only shrunk," and said, "Without desperate reflection and reform, the party will inevitably face a greater crisis."
Ahn said, "First, we must quickly escape from the sea of martial law. The party tried to avoid the 'river of impeachment' but fell into the 'sea of martial law,'" and pointed out, "There is serious public disapproval regarding the party's impeachment vote process and the atmosphere of presidential support within the party." He added, "If we are labeled as a pro-Yoon party or a pro-martial law party, it will be impossible to hold power. We must seriously reflect on the martial law incident, apologize until the public is convinced, and innovate." He also said, "Democracy within the party must be guaranteed. The realization of liberal democracy, which is our constitution and our party's goal, must start with guaranteeing freedom of expression and conscience." He remarked, "The recent appearance of the party was shameful. As a party member, I will humbly accept criticism of my choices," but also said, "When diverse opinions and convictions can breathe within the party, we can become stronger. Our party must be different from the Lee Jae-myung-style totalitarian Democratic Party."
Furthermore, Ahn explained, "We must manage the national emergency and take care of people's livelihoods. People's livelihoods remain precarious due to financial market instability such as exchange rates and stock prices, and sluggish domestic demand," and added, "Healthcare is in a state of collapse, and the response to a potential second Trump administration is practically halted." He continued, "Now, the impeachment judgment should be left to the Constitutional Court, and investigations to investigative agencies, while the party should take the lead in managing the economy and people's livelihoods," and urged, "Even if the opposition party stirs up political strife, we must calmly fulfill the responsibilities of the ruling party." Finally, he said, "People Power Party is the party that will stop the Democratic Party's populist rampage and protect the Republic of Korea healthily," and added, "The party must stand straight for the Republic of Korea to promise a future. To prevent the party's crisis, we must set the direction for reconstruction through bone-cutting reflection and reform starting now."
