Unpaid Appearance and Advertising Fees Despite Court Ruling
Actress Seo Hyo-rim's failure to receive approximately 100 million won in appearance fees from her former agency has recently come to light, sparking controversy.
On the 18th, according to the entertainment industry, Seo Hyo-rim reportedly did not receive about 89 million won in settlement payments for drama, film appearances, and advertisement fees from the entertainment management company Majique from May 2021 to July 2022.
This included advertisement fees for 2021, appearance fees for the MBC drama The Red Sleeve Cuff, appearance fees for the 2022 film In Dream, and other fees for YouTube filming. Majique's CEO Kim reportedly even wrote a memorandum in July 2022 promising to settle the payments, but the promise has yet to be fulfilled.
Ultimately, Seo Hyo-rim filed a claim lawsuit for the agreed amount, and in February last year, Judge Lee Baek-gyu of the Seoul Central District Court Civil Division 96 ruled in favor of payment of the unpaid amount against Majique and CEO Kim.
However, even 1 year and 10 months after the trial, the payment has not been made. According to the court's decision, an annual interest rate of 12% has been applied, increasing the amount Seo Hyo-rim is owed to 120 million won. Majique, burdened with this huge debt, is reportedly still operating its entertainment management business.
Seo Hyo-rim married Jung Myung-ho, director of Napalkkot F&B and son of the late actress Kim Soo-mi (real name Kim Young-ok), in December 2019. The couple has a daughter. Her mother-in-law, Kim Soo-mi, passed away on October 25. Kim Soo-mi also faced difficulties over unpaid appearance fees during her lifetime. The production company of the musical Chinjeong Eomma in which she appeared became embroiled in plagiarism disputes, and it is reported that Kim Soo-mi had not received her fees since last year. She was reportedly preparing to file a lawsuit against the production company.
